HAPPINESS

The red berries I crushed last year
                       are back on the bushes.

Fall's hard-shelled buds
                       engorged with flesh and seed.

Even the leaves are caught
                       with sugar on their hands.

I prayed to be older and wiser;
                       This is what happened.
