"Kim Garcia seduces through the lack of seductiveness. The utmost seriousness of her poetry has a taste of truth — a taste we've almost forgotten under the constant shower of irony."
    —Adam Zagajewski

HAPPINESS
The red berries I crushed last year
                        are back on the bushes.

Fall's hard-shelled buds
                        engorged with flesh and seed.

Even the leaves are caught
                        with sugar on their hands.

I prayed to be older and wiser;
                        This is what happened.
